The Use and Maintenance of Optical Fiber Fusion Splicer

Time:2020-03-04 Views:90

1. the price of optical fiber fusion splicer

It depends on whether you use domestic or imported. Imported prices are more than double that of domestic ones. The price of imported brand products is between 25000---40000.

Optical fiber fusion splicer is mainly used for the construction and maintenance of optical cable in optical communication, so it is also called optical cable fusion splicer. The general working principle is to use a high-voltage arc to melt the sections of the two optical fibers, and at the same time, use a high-precision motion mechanism to smoothly advance the two optical fibers into one, so as to realize the coupling of the optical fiber mode fields.

2. the main purpose of the optical fiber fusion splicer

a. Construction, maintenance and emergency repair of optical cable lines of telecom operators, communication engineering companies and public institutions;

b. Experiment, production and testing of optical devices;

c. Scientific research;

d. Teaching and research on optical fiber communication majors in various colleges and universities.

3. Product classification of optical fiber fusion splicer

Ordinary optical fiber fusion splicer generally refers to single-core optical fiber fusion splicer. In addition, there are ribbon optical fiber fusion splicers specially used for fusion splicing ribbon optical fibers, leather wire fusion splicers for fusion splicing cable and jumper wires, and fusion splicing guarantees. Polarization maintaining fiber fusion splicer, etc.

According to the different alignment methods, fiber fusion splicers can be divided into two categories: cladding alignment and core alignment. The cladding alignment type is mainly suitable for the occasions where the optical fiber is not required to enter the home, so the price is relatively low; Accurately identify the fiber type and automatically select the matching splice mode to ensure the quality of the splice. The technical content is high, so the price will be relatively high.

4. the use process of optical fiber fusion splicer

The most common single-core fiber fusion splicers are generally used in basically the same way:

a. Strip the optical cable and fix the optical cable to the fiber reel frame. Common optical cables are layered, skeleton and central tube optical cables. Different optical cables need different stripping methods. After stripping, the optical cables should be fixed to the fiber reel frame.

b. Pass the stripped optical fibers through the heat shrinkable tube respectively. Fibers of different bundles and colors should be separated and passed through the heat shrinkable tubes respectively.

c. Turn on the power of the fusion splicer and select the appropriate fusion splicing method. Common types and specifications of optical fibers are: SM dispersion non-shifted single-mode fiber (ITU-T G.652), MM multimode fiber (ITU-T G.651), DS dispersion-shifted single-mode fiber (ITU-T G.653), NZ non-zero dispersion-shifted fiber (ITU-T G.655), BI bend-resistant fiber (ITU-T G.657), etc., the appropriate fusion splicing method should be selected according to different fiber types, and the latest optical fiber fusion splicer has automatic The function of identifying optical fibers can automatically identify various types of optical fibers.

d. Prepare the fiber end face. The quality of the fiber end face will directly affect the quality of fusion, so it is necessary to prepare a qualified end face before fusion. Use a special stripping tool to peel off the coating layer, and then wipe the bare fiber with a clean linen cloth or cotton dipped in alcohol for several times. Use a precision fiber cleaver to cut the fiber, and cut the 0.25mm (outer coating) fiber. The length is 8mm-16mm. For 0.9mm (outer coating) fiber, the cutting length can only be 16mm.

e. Place the optical fiber. Put the fiber in the V-groove of the fusion splicer, carefully press the fiber clamp and the fiber clamp, set the position of the fiber in the clamp according to the fiber cutting length, and put it into the draft shield correctly.

f. Connect the optical fiber. After pressing the splicing key, the fibers move toward each other. During the movement, a short discharge is generated to clean the surface of the fiber. When the gap between the fiber end faces is appropriate, the fusion splicer stops moving toward each other, and the initial gap is set. The fusion splicer measures and displays the cut. angle. After the initial gap setting is completed, the core or cladding alignment is performed, then the fusion splicer reduces the gap (final gap setting), the arc generated by the high voltage discharge fuses the left fiber into the right fiber, and finally the microprocessor Calculate the loss and display the value on the display. If the estimated loss value is higher than expected, you can press the discharge key to discharge again, and the splicer will still calculate the loss after discharge.

f. Take out the fiber and reinforce the fiber fusion point with a heater. Open the draft shield, take out the optical fiber from the fusion splicer, move the heat shrinkable tube to the position of the fusion splicing point, put it in the heater for heating, and take out the optical fiber from the heater after heating. During operation, do not touch the heat shrink tube and the ceramic part of the heater due to the high temperature.

h. Coil and fix. Put the connected optical fiber on the optical fiber storage tray, and fix the optical fiber, storage tray, splice box, terminal box, etc., and the operation is completed.

5. Maintenance of optical fiber fusion splicer

The consumable material of the optical fiber fusion splicer is the electrode of the discharge. A new electrode needs to be replaced after about 4000 basic discharges.

6. Replacing the electrode method

First, remove the protective cover of the electrode chamber, loosen the screws that fix the upper electrode, and take out the upper electrode. Then loosen the screw fixing the lower electrode and take out the lower electrode. The installation sequence of the new electrode is opposite to the removal action, and the gap between the two electrode tips is required to be 2.6±0.2mm and symmetrical with the optical fiber. Normally the electrodes do not need to be adjusted. Do not touch the tip of the electrode during the replacement process to prevent damage, and avoid dropping the electrode inside the machine.

After replacing the electrode, you must calibrate the arc position or do it yourself, and re-grind, but the length will change and the corresponding welding parameters need to be modified.
